# Create a project

Create a **Project** to get a workspace for one brand or store. Each project has its own catalog, pages, and AI concierge. Your team works inside the project, and your shoppers see what you publish from it. You need one project for each brand or store you run on ShopperOS.

  B --> C["Configure your catalog to get started"]
  C -->|"choose a source"| D["Catalog import"]
  D -->|"import finishes"| E["Products in Catalog"]
  C -->|"choose a source"| F["Onboarding checklist"]
```
You fill in two fields, and ShopperOS creates the project. Your catalog source then starts the import and the rest of the setup.
## Before you start
* You can sign in to [shopperos.stackline.com](https://shopperos.stackline.com/) with your Stackline account.
* You know your store's website address, for example `acmenaturals.com`.
You do not need to connect your store yet. You connect it after the project exists.
## Create the project in three steps
You give the project a name and a website. ShopperOS does the rest. The path is **project name → New project**.
{% stepper %}
{% step %}
### Open Create a Project
If you have no projects yet, ShopperOS opens **Create a Project** for you.
If you already have a project, click the project name in the top-right corner. At the bottom of the list, click **New project**. You can also type `Create project` in **Search**.
{% endstep %}
{% step %}
### Fill in the form
Fill in both fields. Both are required. The project belongs to your company, so your team can open it.
| Field             | What to enter                                                  | How ShopperOS uses it                                                        |
| ----------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Project name**  | The name your team knows the store by, for example `Acme DTC`. | Shows in the project switcher and across ShopperOS. You can rename it later. |
| **Store website** | Your store's address, for example `acmenaturals.com`.          | ShopperOS reads your site to pick product categories and a brand style.      |
| {% endstep %}     |                                                                |                                                                              |
{% step %}
### Click Create Project
Click **Create Project**. The button reads **Creating…** while it works. You see **Project created**. ShopperOS opens the new project on its **Catalog** page.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}
Done. You are the first admin of the new project. Next, choose your catalog source. To give your team access, see [Invite your team](/getting-started/members.md).
To close the create screen without a new project, click the **X** in the top-right corner. The **X** shows only when you already have a project to go back to.
## Your catalog source starts the import
A new project has no products, so you choose where to build your catalog from. The **Catalog** page shows **Configure your catalog to get started**. Until your catalog has products, ShopperOS hides the top navigation.
{% tabs %}
{% tab title="Retailers we track" %}
Use this source when Stackline already tracks your brand on major retailers. You install nothing.
{% endtab %}
{% tab title="Shopify" %}
Use this source when you sell on your own Shopify store. See [Connect your Shopify store](/selling-and-checkout/shopify-integration.md).
If your website is a Shopify store, ShopperOS opens the **Shopify** step for you. To see every source, click the back arrow.
{% endtab %}
{% tab title="Magento" %}
Use this source when you sell on your own Magento store. You create a read-only integration in Magento. Your Stackline contact gives you the **Source retailer ID**.
{% endtab %}
{% endtabs %}
The import usually takes a few minutes. You can keep working. Your products appear in **Catalog** when the import finishes. Next, see [Your catalog](/catalog/catalog.md).
## ShopperOS sets up the rest for you
When you choose a catalog source, ShopperOS starts the rest of the setup on its own. It does these tasks:
* Ranks your products, so your best sellers show first.
* Prepares product search for your shoppers.
* Claims a Brandclub domain for your store.
* Turns on shopper sign-in.
* Reads your website for your brand colors, fonts, and voice.
* Turns on the AI concierge and Pages.
* Creates brand images for your storefront.
* Loads your Shopify store's policies into the concierge.
* Turns on your **Where to buy** retailers.
Each task is a step on the [Onboarding checklist](/getting-started/onboarding-checklist.md). Open it to see the progress of each step.
## Rename your project in Settings
You can change the name and description at any time, in **Settings → Overview → Details**.
{% stepper %}
{% step %}
### Open the Details tab
Open **Settings → Overview**, and click the **Details** tab.
{% endstep %}
{% step %}
### Change the name
In **Project name**, type the new name. It cannot be empty.
{% endstep %}
{% step %}
### Change the description, if you want
In **Description**, type the text that shows as your store description. A new project starts with its website here.
{% endstep %}
{% step %}
### Save
Click **Save**. You see **Saved.**
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}
Done. The new name shows in the project switcher immediately.
{% hint style="warning" %}
**Stackline team step.** Only your Stackline team can create a project for another company. Only they can change the company that a project belongs to. Contact your Stackline team for these changes.
{% endhint %}
## Troubleshooting
Each answer starts from the message or behavior that you see.
<details>
<summary>What if I see "Couldn't create the project:" and a reason?</summary>
Read the reason, and correct the field. Then click **Create Project** again.
</details>
<details>
<summary>What if I see "Part of the project was created. Try again. The next attempt reuses that part."?</summary>
Click **Create Project** again. ShopperOS finishes the same project. It does not make a second one.
</details>
<details>
<summary>What if I see "Couldn't load your projects"?</summary>
Make sure that you are signed in, then reload the page. If the message stays, contact your Stackline team.
</details>
<details>
<summary>What if Create Project stays grey?</summary>
Fill in both **Project name** and **Store website**.
</details>
