# Onboarding checklist

The onboarding checklist shows the progress of everything your project needs to go live. Find it in **Settings → Overview → Onboarding**. You do not start these steps by hand. ShopperOS starts them when you choose your catalog source. Use this screen to check progress, run a step that did not finish, or refresh a step.

To see how the steps start, read [Create a project](/getting-started/create-a-project.md).

## Open the checklist from Settings

The checklist is the first tab of **Overview**.

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

### Open Settings

In the top-right corner, click your **avatar**, and click **Settings**. The Settings menu opens.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Open Overview

In the Settings menu, click **Overview**. The **Onboarding** tab opens.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

Done. The checklist shows each step and its status. Next, see [what each status means](#each-status-tells-you-what-to-do-next).

## Catalog runs first, and four steps run last

ShopperOS runs the **Catalog** step first. Most other steps then run at the same time. **Brand imagery**, **Store knowledge**, **Where to buy**, and **Store icon** run last.

```
The **Waits for** column in the table below names the step that each step needs first.
| Step                        | What it does                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               | Waits for        |
| --------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ---------------- |
| **Catalog**                 | Imports products from your source: your connected store, or a retailer we track your brand on.                                                                                                                                                                             |                  |
| **Catalog Product Ranking** | Orders your catalog so your best sellers show first, based on recent sales.                                                                                                                                                                                                | **Catalog**      |
| **Search embeddings**       | Prepares product search, so shoppers can find items by meaning, not only by keywords.                                                                                                                                                                                      | **Catalog**      |
| **Hosting**                 | Claims the Brandclub-managed domain your project serves from. See [Domains and hosting](/pages-studio/hosting.md).                                                                                                                                                         |                  |
| **Auth**                    | Turns on shopper sign-in, so shoppers can register and sign in.                                                                                                                                                                                                            |                  |
| **Branding**                | Reads your website for its colors, fonts, and voice and tone.                                                                                                                                                                                                              |                  |
| **Concierge**               | Turns on the AI concierge with default rules and guardrails. See [AI concierge](/concierge/concierge.md).                                                                                                                                                                  |                  |
| **Pages Studio**            | Turns on Pages, so your storefront can serve the pages you build. See [Pages and themes](/pages-studio/pages.md).                                                                                                                                                          |                  |
| **Brand imagery**           | Creates a set of brand scenes from your own products for your storefront.                                                                                                                                                                                                  | **Pages Studio** |
| **Store knowledge**         | Loads your Shopify store's policies and content pages into the concierge. See [Knowledge and guardrails](/concierge/knowledge.md).                                                                                                                                         | **Concierge**    |
| **Where to buy**            | Turns on the retailers that carry your brand. It also turns on the store locator when they have in-store lists. See [Where to buy and store locator](/catalog/where-to-buy.md).                                                                                            | **Catalog**      |
| **Store icon**              | Uses your brand's favicon as your Shopify store's icon in retailer lists, where to buy, and product cards. It does not replace an icon your store already has. To change the icon later, open **Catalog settings**, select the **Source** tab, and select **Change icon**. | **Catalog**      |
While **Catalog** runs, its row shows progress, for example **Reading the site to pick categories…** or **120 of 450 products**.
## Each status tells you what to do next
The status shows where the step is now.
| Status                                          | Meaning                                                                                                  |
| ----------------------------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| <mark style="color:green;">Ready</mark>         | The step is done.                                                                                        |
| <mark style="color:orange;">Incomplete</mark>   | The step finished, but something is missing from its result.                                             |
| <mark style="color:blue;">Working…</mark>       | The step is running now.                                                                                 |
| <mark style="color:blue;">Queued</mark>         | The step is about to run.                                                                                |
| <mark style="color:orange;">Waiting</mark>      | The step needs another step first. The row says which, for example **Waits for Pages Studio to finish.** |
| Not started                                     | The step has not run yet.                                                                                |
| <mark style="color:red;">Needs attention</mark> | The step failed. The row shows the reason.                                                               |
| Not needed                                      | Your project does not need this step. The row says why.                                                  |
Under each status, the row shows when the step last changed. For example, **Last ran 3 minutes ago** or **Started 2 minutes ago**. A step that fails more than once shows its attempt, for example **Failed 5 minutes ago · attempt 2**.
### Three steps can show Not needed
Each of these steps gives its reason on the row.
| Step                        | Reason shown                                                                                                               |
| --------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Catalog Product Ranking** | Your catalog comes only from your own store. Ranking needs retailer sales data, so there is nothing to rank by.            |
| **Branding**                | **This project has no website to read branding from.**                                                                     |
| **Store knowledge**         | **This project has no Shopify store to read policies and pages from.** Or: **The store has no policies or pages to load.** |
## Run steps from the row or the header
Run one step from its row, or several steps from the header. The row button depends on the state of the step.
| Button        | When it shows              | What it does         |
| ------------- | -------------------------- | -------------------- |
| **Run**       | The step has not finished. | Runs the step.       |
| **Run again** | The step is done.          | Refreshes the step.  |
| **Retry**     | The step failed.           | Runs the step again. |
The header has two buttons:
* **Run all** runs every step that can run.
* **Run selected** runs only the rows you tick. All rows start ticked. Untick a row to leave it out.
While steps run, the button reads **Working…**. The page updates on its own.
A step can also finish when you complete it on its own settings screen. For example, when you set up hosting in **Settings → Hosting**, **Hosting** shows **Ready**.
### Run a finished step again
When your run includes a finished step, ShopperOS asks you to confirm first.
{% stepper %}
{% step %}
### Start the run
Click **Run again**, **Run selected**, or **Run all**.
{% endstep %}
{% step %}
### Read the dialog
The **Run again?** dialog lists each step and what happens to it: **Will run**, **Will run again**, **Left as is**, or **Nothing to do**.
{% endstep %}
{% step %}
### Confirm
Click **Run again** to continue, or **Cancel**.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}
Done. The steps run, and each row shows its new status. Next, see [what each status means](#each-status-tells-you-what-to-do-next).
{% hint style="info" %}
A second run refreshes a step. It deletes nothing you have already set up. For example, **Catalog** adds and refreshes products. **Branding** publishes a new brand version, and earlier brand versions stay.
{% endhint %}
### Brand imagery runs once
After **Brand imagery** is done, it has no **Run again** button. ShopperOS creates your images once, during setup. A storefront shows the image set it was installed with. To change the images on a live storefront, talk to your Stackline team.
## Troubleshooting
Each answer starts from what you see on the checklist.
<details>
<summary>What if a step shows Needs attention?</summary>
Read the reason on the row. If you can, correct the problem on the step's settings screen. Then click **Retry**.
</details>
<details>
<summary>What if a step shows Waiting for a long time?</summary>
Check the step that it waits for. Run that step first.
</details>
<details>
<summary>What if a step stays on Working… for a long time?</summary>
If a step stays on **Working…** much longer than expected, contact your Stackline team.
</details>
<details>
<summary>What if the status stops changing?</summary>
The page stops checking for updates after about 10 minutes. Reload the page to see the latest status.
</details>
<details>
<summary>What if Run selected stays grey?</summary>
Tick at least one row.
</details>
<details>
<summary>What if I see "We couldn't load your project."?</summary>
Reload the page. If the message stays, contact your Stackline team.
</details>
